Jane can offer any level of support or advice that might be needed, on your terms. While she has been recruited by Mencap, any older carer can contact her, not just Mencap members.

Local school part of transition planning pilot

Local school part of transition planning pilot

Salterns school in Totton has taken part in a pilot project in SE England to try out different ways of doing transition plan meetings. These meetings are an important way of planning with the young person and their family about what they want to happen when they leave school.

The pilot uses some of the ideas from person-centred planning to strengthen the young person and their family's voices within the meeting.

The meeting at the school went very well with lots of ideas shared about what is important to the young person. Osborne School in Winchester is also trying this out in February with one of their students.

Once the whole region has evaluated the project, local authorities and schools can consider how they want to take things forward in the future, and in their other schools.

Research Project Findings

Research Project Findings

Local people including family carers, staff and self-advocates travelled to London on 30th June for a national conference all about the results of the research into person centred planning, which the New Forest was part of.

Some of us did a presentation, and there was good feedback about these workshops.

These presentations, as well as the actual research findings can be seen by going to

www.centrevents.co.uk then go to "Making it work: Lessons from research in Person Centred Planning".

In the meantime, people in the New Forest have carried on with their planning, resulting in a very happy wedding day in July for one local couple!
